Stainless steel instruments that pick up restriction a thumb cannot feel, then treat exactly what they found.

What It Is

The tool finds it first.

Graston Technique uses a set of stainless steel instruments, each shaped for a different part of the body. Swept across the skin, the steel picks up restriction in the tissue underneath and sends it back to the clinician’s hand as a grain or a catch.

That is the part hands do not do as well. Once the restriction is mapped, the same instrument treats it, then you load the area so the tissue rebuilds under tension instead of settling straight back down. That is Prime phase work, and it only happens if the exam pointed there.

You do not need to be talked into hard work. You need somebody to find the actual spot.

What It Helps

Where Graston works.

Restricted tissue rarely hurts where it is stuck. It hurts wherever your body borrows the motion from instead.

What A Session Looks Like

How a session runs.

1

The instrument sweeps and maps the area.

2

We treat the restriction we found.

3

You load it before you leave.

Why It Works

Four reasons it earns its place.

Restriction found by feel, not by guess.

Reach a thumb simply cannot get to.

Progress in a spot that had gone quiet.

Loading right after, so it holds.

Questions, Answered

Graston Technique, no mystery.

There can be discomfort over a restricted area, and some redness afterward is normal. Bruising is not the goal and it is not proof that it worked. We work at a pressure you agree to, and if an area is too irritated for the instrument today, we do something else instead.

Graston is one specific system inside the broader category of instrument-assisted soft tissue work, with stainless steel tools and a certification course behind them. ASTYM is a different system with a different protocol. IASTM is the umbrella term for all of it. The tool matters far less than the exam that decided to use one.

Dr. Evan Hoffart is Graston certified, and every clinician who treats you here is a Doctor of Physical Therapy. Nobody hands you off to a tech. The person who evaluated you is the person holding the instrument.
