ASTYM therapy in San Antonio.

An instrument protocol for tissue that healed badly: old scar, thickened fascia, and the tendon that never came all the way back.

What It Is

For tissue that healed badly.

ASTYM is an instrument-assisted protocol. A clinician runs a shaped tool along the area to locate and treat dysfunctional tissue: old scar, thickened fascia and tendons that never fully remodeled after the injury.

What makes it ASTYM is what happens next. Every treatment is followed by stretching and loading, in that order, and you keep doing your activity while you go through it. The instrument finds the problem. The loading is what rebuilds it. In your plan, that is Prime work.

You already rested it. You rested it for a long time, exactly the way you were told, and it came back the same.

What It Helps

Where ASTYM fits best.

A tendon problem does not behave like a sprain. Time alone rarely settles it, and the longer it sits, the more the tissue sets around it.

What A Session Looks Like

How a session runs.

1

We map the tissue with the instrument.

2

We treat what we found.

3

You stretch and load it, same visit.

Why It Works

Four reasons it earns its place.

Change in tissue that stopped changing.

You keep your activity while you go through it.

Every treatment is followed by loading.

A plan for the tendon, not relief for today.

Questions, Answered

ASTYM, no mystery.

The instrument work can be tender over a spot that is already irritated, and it is normal to feel sore the next day the way you would after a hard session. We work at a level you agree to, we tell you what to expect first, and you can ask us to ease off at any point.

No, and we would rather you did not. Staying active is part of the protocol, because loaded tissue remodels and rested tissue does not. We change what you do and how much of it, then we build it back up as the tissue tolerates more.

Both are instrument-assisted soft tissue work, which is why they get lumped together. ASTYM is its own system with its own protocol and its own tools, and it is built around pairing treatment with stretching, loading and staying active. Graston uses stainless steel instruments and a different approach. Your exam decides which one you need.
